Osceola, FL : The Ramapo College softball team posted two wins in their final day of play as they beat UW-River Falls, 3-2 in eight innings and posted a 5-2 win over UW-Stevens Point. They finished the spring trip to Florida with a 7-5 record.
March 25th – Game 1(8innings): Ramapo 3, UW-River Falls 2
UW-River Falls scored an early run in the top of the first inning on three hits. Ramapo's defense then held River Falls scoreless for three innings until they could push a run across the plate. In the fifth inning sophomore designated player LEAH MONDADORI (Emerson, NJ ) reached base on a fielder's choice. Junior centerfielder ERICA MOOORE (Hazlet, NJ ) had a single of her own to put runners at first and second. Then sophomore MICHELLE ROSSI (Emerson, NJ ) smacked a RBI single to right center as MONDADORI scored. Ramapo scored one run in the sixth to break the tie at 2-1. Rookie second basemen AMANDA JONES (Rutherford,NJ ) singled and junior leftfielder ANDREA PASTIGLIONE(Southern, CA) then smacked a RBI triple to left field scoring JONES from first. River Falls answered with the tying run in the top of the seventh on two hits as Leah Vanderploeg singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Michelle Heuser and moved over to third on a ground out to short by Emily Rogers. Vanderploeg then scored on a Breamber Syverson RBI single. UW-River falls held Ramapo in the bottom of the seventh bringing the game into extra innings. Sophomore pitcher MARISSA MARINIO (Wayne, NJ ) pitched the 8th inning and held River Falls scoreless. Amanda Wojnowiak started at second base and was stranded there as MARINO got two straight strike outs and a ground out to sophomore shortstop VIRGINIA O'BRIEN (Emerson, NJ ) to end the inning. Ramapo then started the eighth inning with sophomore right fielder MICHELLE ROSSI (Emerson, NJ ) at second base. She was moved over to third base on a LAUREN CASINO (New Windsor, NY) ground out to third base. ROSSI then scored the winning run on a wild pitch giving the roadrunners their sixth win of the season. Rookie pitcher HEATHER CAMB (Totowa, NJ ) pitched seven full innings giving up seven hits and firing three strikeouts. MOORE went 2 for 4; ROSSI went 1 for 3 with one run scored and one RBI. PASTIGLIONE went 2 for 3 with a RBI.
March 25th – Game 2: Ramapo 5, UW-Stevens Point 2
Ramapo College pulled out their second win of the day as they beat UW-Stevens Point 5-2. Ramapo jumped out to an early 4-0 lead as rookie second basemen AMANDA JONES (Rutherford, NJ ) singled to lead off the third inning, she then advanced to second base on an error by the first basemen. Sophomore leftfielder GEMMA CHALKLEY (West Milford, NJ ) then walked and both JONES AND CHALKLEY advanced a base on a wild pitch. Sophomore designated player LEAH MONDADORI (Emerson, NJ ) then singled home JONES and CHALKLEY advanced to third. Junior centerfielder ERICA MOORE (Hazlet, NJ ) then smacked a double to center to score MONDADORI AND CHALKLEY. MOORE then scored on a LISA RIZZO (Dumont, NJ ) single bringing the score to 4-0. Stevens Point then scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jenn Feidt reached base on a fielder's choice and Bekah Bauer doubled to center scoring Feidt. Ramapo answered with a run of their own in the top of the sixth as rookie third basemen LAUREN CASINO singled and advanced to third on an ELIZABETH CHOMA (East Brunswick, NJ ) single. CHOMA then advanced to second on a throw to third. CASINO then scored on an error by the third basemen, to bring the lead to 5-1. Stevens Point then scored in the bottom of the seventh as a Ramapo error and a Stevens Point RBI double from Jess Cook scored their second run of the game, bringing the score to 5-2. Sophomore pitcher MARISSA MARINO (Wayne, NJ ) then got the final out of the inning on a pop up to rookie second basemen MEGAN HICKS (Paramus, NJ ). MARINO yielded six hits and fired four strikeouts giving up only one earned run running her record to 3-3. Ramapo had thirteen hits in the game. MONDADORI was 2 for 2 with and RBI and a run scored. MOORE was also 2 for 2 with a run scored and 2 RBI's. PATTON was 1 for 2. CHOMA was 2 for 3 and JONES was 1 for 2 with one run scored.
The Ramapo College softball team returns to action on Monday, March 28th for their first home game of the season at 3:30PM.
