Mahwah, NJ: The Cougars of Kean University visited the Bradley Center on the campus of Ramapo College tonight dropping the Roadrunners, 64-59 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up. Ramapo falls to 6-10 overall, 2-7 in the NJAC while Kean improves to 7-12 overall, 4-6 in the conference.
The lead went back and forth in the first half of play, but the Cougars of Kean University finished the first twenty minutes on top of the Roadrunners by three, 33-30. Kean led by as many as four while Ramapo jumped to a six-point lead with 6:15 left in the half. Kean answered with a 10-1 run to take and hold onto the lead with 2:42 remaining. The Cougars led the entire second half defeating the Roadrunners, 64-59 in Mahwah.
Senior guard Missy Magyar (Iselin, NJ) dropped in 22 points shooting 8-20 from the field, 5-15 from behind the arc leading the Cougars to their fourth NJAC win of the 2004-2005 season. Magyar grabbed four steals and two rebounds while rookie center Chari' Cooper (Paulsboro, NJ) grabbed a team-high 15 boards. Cooper chipped in nine points for the Cougars and Brittany Cleveland (Mays Landing, NJ) and Shirley Fernandez (Union City, NJ) posted eight and six points respectively. As a team, the Cougars shot 26-71 (37%) from the field while the Roadrunners shot 19-53 (36%).
For Ramapo, senior guard JANINE CAPPADONA (Atlantic Highlands, NJ) led in her first game back after an injury, shooting 6-16 from the field, 8-10 from the line recording 20 points. Sophomore KEONA PALMER (Port Reading, NJ) and junior VANESSA VARGAS (Union City, NJ) combined for 23 points shooting 4-12 from the field, 7-12 from the line, and 3-9 from the field, 2-5 from behind the arc respectively. VARGAS dished out five assists and PALMER led in rebounds with eight.
The Roadrunners will travel to Rutgers Camden on Saturday, January 29th for a 1:00 PM start while the Cougars will host The College of New Jersey at 3:00 PM.
