Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team fell short, 63-50 to the Ospreys of Richard Stockton College tonight at the Athletic Center. Ramapo falls to 1-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while Stockton improves to 5-1. Ramapo now stands at 9-7 overall, Stockton, 8-8.
Ramapo fell behind 10-0 at the start of the game before netting there first basket by senior STEPHANIE PILLARI (Westwood, NJ). Stockton went up by 11 with a Krystle Umscheid (Cape May, NJ) three-pointer before KATIE ARCURI (Staten Island, NY) knocked down Ramapo's first three, with 11:28 left in the half. Ramapo shot 4-32 (13%) in the half behind Stockton's 9-24 (37%) for a low scoring 21-12 half. VANESSA VARGAS (Union City, NJ) tied the game 32-32 on the second of a pair of free throws. Umscheid put Stockton up 34-32 and ARCURI knocked down another three to give Ramapo a 35-34 advantage. Ramapo was unable to hold on falling 63-50 in Mahwah shooting 30% while the Ospreys shot 38%.
Christina Mason (Southampton, NJ) led the Ospreys with 28 points shooting 7-17 from the floor, 4-7 from behind the three-point arc. Mason grabbed eight boards while dishing out three assists in the match-up. Umscheid netted 17 points and Kristen Spencer (Deptford, NJ) added eight. Sophomore Lisa Zak (Bayville, NJ) led the team in rebounds with 14 while adding four points and two assists.
For the Roadrunners, junior JANINE CAPPADONA (Atlantic Highlands, NJ) tallied 17 points while ARCURI posted ten in the game. CAPPADONA and VARGAS each pulled down four rebounds.
Ramapo will travel to The College of New Jersey on Saturday, January 24th for a 1:00 PM NJAC match-up.
