Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team played host to the Lions of Lincoln University tonight at the Athletic Center posting a 64-48 victory. The Roadrunners improve to 9-5 overall while the Lions fall to 4-7 on the season.
Ramapo opened the game with an 11-0 run before Lincoln netted their first points of the game with two made free throws by rookie Mary Rotimi (Philadelphia, PA). The Roadrunners led by as many as 14, and the Lions came within four at the 3:39 mark in the first half before Ramapo separated once again to end the first period up 32-23. Ramapo outscored Lincoln 32-25 in the second half for the 64-48 win in Mahwah.
Sophomore guard VANESSA VARGAS (Union City, NJ) led the Roadrunners sinking 5-13 from the floor, 4-6 from the line, for 14 points. Senior captain STEPHANIE PILLARI (Westwood, NJ) tallied 13 of her own shooting 6-11. PILLARI grabbed five rebounds while adding six assists and four steals in the match-up. VARGAS pulled down eight rebounds and junior JANINE CAPPADONA (Athletic Highlands, NJ) added four. CAPPADONA chipped in nine points for the team and senior KATIE ARCURI (Staten Island, NY) added 11 of her own.
For the Lions, Rotimi led the team with 12 points while Altoria Spann (Philadelphia, PA) recorded a double-double with ten points and 12 rebounds.
Ramapo will return to NJAC action on Saturday, January 17th when they host the Pioneers of William Paterson at 1:00 PM.
