Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College Roadrunners improved to 2-0-1 today at the Athletic Center as they defeated the Cougars of Medgar Evers, 1-0 in overtime. Medgar Evers falls to 0-1.
Ramapo took 17 shots while Medgar Evers ripped six in a 0-0 regulation game. Rookie JOSH TAYLOR (Hackensack, NJ) finished the game five minutes into the first overtime half giving Ramapo the 1-0 shutout victory. Ramapo's lone goal was assisted by sophomore ANGEL MARTINEZ (Princeton, NJ). Rookie goalkeeper PATRICK JAGODZINSKI (Lebanon, NJ) recorded his second shutout of the season posting two saves in 95:11 minutes.
Ancil Steeple (Brooklyn, NY) blocked four shots in the match-up for Medgar Evers.
In game two, Newbury and Polytechnic finished regulation at a stand still, 2-2. Polytechnic took an early 2-0 lead with goals by Heath Gammon at 3:15 and Jarroitt Huddleston, 8:22. Polytechnic's first goal was assisted by Forde Youla. Newbury quickly fought back netting one at 17:07, Yusuf Cayhan, assisted by Stephen Bennett, and another unassisted at 29:35, Rob Nunes. After two overtime halves, Newbury and Polytechnic stood tied at 2-2. For tournament purposes only, each took five penalty kicks ending 4-3 Newbury. Newbury advances to the finals and will face Ramapo tomorrow at 3:00 PM.
Andres Gutierrez of Newbury faced 17 shots blocking 15 while Shahid Khan blocked one.
Medgar Evers and Polytechnic will face off at 1:00 PM in a consolation match-up.
