Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team dropped the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City tonight at the Athletic Center, 84-77 in overtime. Ramapo remains undefeated standing at 3-0 overall while winning the first of their New Jersey Athletic Conference match-ups improving to 1-0. New Jersey City falls to 1-2 overall, 0-1 in the conference.
Ramapo led by as many as 11 and New Jersey City by seven in regulation. With 23 seconds left in the game, New Jersey City's, Erika Cubile (Jersey City, NJ), hit a jumper tying the game at 73. In overtime, Wynter Lightfoot (Haverstraw, NY) hit a jumper giving NJCU a two point lead. Ramapo's STEPHANIE PILLARI (Westwood, NJ) hit a free throw with 4:39 left and KATIE ARCURI (Staten Island, NY) hit a lay-up with 3:43 left to regain the lead never looking back dropping New Jersey City, 84-77 in Mahwah.
Ramapo shot 44.1% from the floor behind New Jersey City's 44.6%. PILLARI and junior JANINE CAPPADONA (Athletic Highlands, NJ) led Ramapo posting double-doubles with 21 points and ten rebounds and 15 points and 13 rebounds respectively. ARCURI netted 23 points of her own while dishing out five assists in the game. Rookie KEONA PALMER (Port Reading, NJ) knocked down ten points and grabbed six boards while KELLY BARTZ (Madison, NJ) added seven points and seven rebounds of her own.
Despite the loss, NJCU saw career high performances from Megan Kabba (Newark, NJ), 14 points, Latrese McNair (Elizabeth, NJ), 12 points, Darneshia Joyner (Long Branch, NJ), 11 points, and Amber Moses (Montclair, NJ), nine points. Moses and Monica Lykes (Piscataway, NJ) led the way with six rebounds apiece and Joyner and Sharnice Jackson (Jersey City, NJ) dished out four assists each.
Ramapo will travel to Stevens on Monday, December 1st at 7:00 PM.
