Throggs Neck, NY: The Ramapo College women's lacrosse team defeated host SUNY Maritime tonight in non-conference action, 17-8. The Roadrunners move to 5-6 overall while the Privateers now stand at 1-5 on the season.
Ramapo scored the first two goals of the game, both assisted by
Meri Cassidy.
Lexi Callari hit the back of the net first for the team at 14:26 while
Kassidy Baez scored at 11:11 for a 2-0 lead. The Privateers tied the game with two goals of their own before
Leah Whitney broke the tie with an unassisted goal at 4:25 in the first. That goal gave the Roadrunners a 3-2 lead, one that they did not give up the remainder of the game. Whitney's goal started a string of four straight goals to end the first while they picked back up in the second with two more before SUNY Maritime added another. Ramapo led 8-2 in the second quarter before the Privateers scored one at the end of the first and one to open the third to cut the lead in half. The Roadrunners scored four more goals in the third quarter while SUNY Maritime added two, 12-6. In the final quarter of action, the Privateers put in two while Ramapo added five to extend their lead, 17-8.
Baez led the way for Ramapo with five goals and three assists while she added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Bethany Glaser posted four goals, three draw controls, one caused turnover and one ground ball.
Meri Cassidy tallied six points with three goals and three assists while recording two ground balls and one caused turnover.
Ashley Czeczuga led the team with four caused turnovers while posting three ground balls. Whitney and
Jada Oddo led the team the way with six ground balls each.
Erin Smeilus posted one goal and one assist while leading the team with 10 draw controls.
Daniella Indomenico posted nine saves in the win for the Roadrunners in goal.
Ramapo returns to action on April 8th when they open up NJAC play on the road at Montclair State University. The game is set for 7:00pm.
