Madison, NJ: The Drew University women's lacrosse team used a strong second quarter to pull away for a 20-7 win over Ramapo College. The Rangers move to 6-2 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 3-5 on the year.
Drew took a 4-3 lead into the second quarter as the Roadrunners scored a late first quarter goal to come within one of tying the game.
Bethany Glaser scored an unassisted goal to put Ramapo on the board first in the game. Emily Monaco tied the game up for Drew with an unassisted goal of her own before
Meri Cassidy took a pass from
Darrien Pennachio for a 2-1 lead with 6:14 on the clock. Drew would score three straight goals to take a 4-2 lead with 2:21 remaining. Pennachio took a pass from
Kassidy Baez and hit the back of the net for the final goal of the quarter as Drew led 4-3. The Rangers would score eight unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 12-3 lead at halftime. Drew added four more goals in the third while Ramapo tallied one goal off the stick of Glaser, unassisted. The Rangers held a 16-4 lead heading into the final quarter of action. Baez earned the assist in Ramapo's first two goals of the fourth quarter which gave her 26 for the season and set a new single season program record.
Meri Cassidy and Glaser each scored for the Roadrunners. Ramapo's final goal of the game came with 6:46 remaining as
Lexi Callari hit the back of the net while Pennachio earned the assist. Drew extended their lead with four more goals in the fourth as they won 20-7.
Daniella Indomenico collected seven saves in the game including her fifth save with 6:33 on the clock in the second quarter to record her 200th career save.
Leah Whitney led the team with three caused turnovers in the game while adding five ground balls and four draw controls.
The Roadrunners return to action on March 25th when they host FDU-Florham in a non-conference game at the Athletic Center Turf Field at 7pm.
