Panama City Beach, FL: The Keene State College women's lacrosse team defeated Ramapo College tonight, 9-5. The Owls move to 3-5 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 3-6 overall.
Keene State came back to take the lead in the third before scoring three more goals in the fourth quarter while the Owl defense held the Roadrunners scoreless in the final quarter. Two unassisted goals from Lola Varricchione and one goal from
Kassidy Baez gave the Owls a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Owls would take a 4-2 lead in the second. Tess Brown scored unassisted for a 3-1 lead before
Bethany Glaser put in an unassisted goal for the Roadrunners, 3-2. Varricchione teamed up with Brown with 3:36 on the clock to put the Owls up, 4-2. Ramapo outscored the Owls in the third with three goals to their two.
Erin Smeilus and Glaser scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at four with 6:19 on the clock. Keene State tallied a goal from Kayln Arnold before Smeilus tied the game up once again with a goal (1:40), 5-5. Hayden Smith took a pass from Brown, which turned out to be the eventual game-winner, to give the Owls the lead for good with 19 seconds remaining in the third, 6-5. They added three goals in the fourth to extend their lead, 9-5.
Daniella Indomenico posted eight saves for the Roadrunners in the game. Alexandra Donnellen,
Kristina McClain, Baez and
Trinity Toerock each posted two caused turnovers in the game.
Ashley Czeczuga tallied three ground balls and one caused turnover.
Ramapo returns to action on March 23rd when they travel to Drew University for a non-conference game at 4:00 PM.Â
