Mahwah, NJ: The #18-ranked William Paterson University women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College tonight in NJAC action, 80-41. The Pioneers move to 24-1 overall and sweep the NJAC conference with an 18-0 record. The Roadrunners wrap up the year with an 8-17 overall record and 3-15 in the league.
The Pioneers clinched the #1 seed in the upcoming NJAC Women's Basketball Tournament which opens on Saturday with first-round games. WPU earns a bye and will play in the semifinals on Tuesday. The full NJAC Tournament bracket will be released on njacsports.com.
WPU got off to a hot start in the first quarter outscoring the Roadrunners 22-4 in the first and never looked back. WPU had four players score in double figures as they were led by Luna Kirby with 14 points. Renee Wells posted 13 points while Leilani Pinder added 12 points including two made three-pointers. Jada Jacobs added ten points and a team high eight rebounds while adding five assists and four steals. Patty Walsh contributed with seven rebounds and six points along with a team high three blocks. The team shot 53% from the field (36-67), 54% (6-11) from the three-point line and 28% (2-7) from the free throw line.
Ramapo was led by
Vanessa Kohler who tallied 13 points while also posting a team high eight rebounds.
Emma Cartwright and
Lauren Flatt each posted six points while Cartwright added six rebounds with one block.
Jorie Boyle led the team with three steals while adding one rebound and one assist. The team shot 27% (16-58) from the field, 20% (2-10) from the three-point line and 70% (7-10) from the floor.
