Mahwah, NJ: The Rutgers Newark University men's volleyball team defeated Ramapo College tonight, 3-0 (28-26, 25-23, 25-19). The Scarlet Raiders move to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners even their overall record to 1-1 and 0-1 in the conference.
The two teams battled in set one as the match pushed to 28-26 in favor of the Scarlet Raiders. In the second set, Rutgers-Newark started to pull away, recording five straight points to take a 10-5 lead. Ramapo then went on a three-point one of their own before Rutgers-Newark added another mini run of four straight points for a 14-8 lead. The Scarlet Raiders took a 22-14 lead before the Roadrunners went on a 7-1 run which shrunk the lead to 23-21. A RCNJ service error gave Rutgers-Newark their 24th point before Ramapo combined a block from
Josh Barrett and Rutgers-Newark service error to come within one, 24-23. The Scarlet Raiders would get the game winner from Aleks Kolodziej on a kill, 25-23. In the final set of the match the two teams went point for point for the majority of the set before Rutgers-Newark went on a 6-0 run to take a 22-16 lead. Ramapo scored the next three points to come within three of tying the match before the Scarlet Raptors recorded the final three points to take the match, 25-19.
Kolodziej and Alex Solodky each put down 11 kills for Rutgers-Newark while Michael Suarez tallied nine. Duncan Sturt dished out 32 assists while Kaden Komine posted a team high 10 digs. The team hit .262 in the match with 37 total kills on 84 attempts with 15 errors.
For the Roadrunners,
Jan Tracz led the way with nine kills and one solo block while
Josh Barrett posted eight kills, four digs and two blocks (one solo).
Trevor Van Valkenburgh added seven kills, three digs and one assisted block.
Sebastian Rodriguez posted two aces in the match while
Sean McNally collected a team high nine digs on defense for the team.
Joseph Duca contributed with 29 assists while he added one kill, one solo block and six digs. The team hit .223 in the match with 35 total kills on 94 attempts with 14 errors.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 24th when they host King's College at 12:00 PM.
