Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's soccer team defeated St. Joseph's University Long Island tonight at the Athletic Center Turf Field, 2-1. The Roadrunners move to 1-0-1 overall while the Golden Eagles stand at 0-1-1 overall.
The Golden Eagles struck first with a goal from Alexis Pasciuta in the third minute of action to put them up 1-0 early in the game. Ramapo would get the game-tying goal in the 43rd minute of action.
Alysa Wasicki scored her first career goal off a pass from
Natasha Iglesia with 42:44 on the clock.
In the second half,
Marisa Christ also earned her first career goal to put the Roadrunners up 2-1. In the 88th minute Ramapo was awarded a free kick 25-yards out. Christ stepped up to take the free kick as the ball sailed into the back of the net just out of reach of the SJLI keeper's hands.
Ramapo held on in the final two minutes of action for the non-conference victory. Both teams took eight shots on goal in the game while SJLI held a slight advantage in corner kicks 2-1.
Gabby Matias recorded six saves for the Roadrunners in the game while Kristin Vahle also posted six for the Golden Eagles.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, Sept. 6th when they host Manhattanville University in a non-conference game at 2:00 PM.
