Mahwah, NJ: The Rowan University women's soccer team scored two late second-half goals to defeat Ramapo College in NJAC action tonight, 2-0. The Profs, who are ranked #4 in the latest IWSOC/United Coaches Top 25 Poll, extended their winning streak to eight games and improved to 8-0 overall, 3-0 in the conference. The Roadrunners move to 3-3-2 overall and 0-3 in NJAC play.
The Roadrunners held the Profs scoreless through the first half and into the final 23 minutes of the game before Rowan scored with two goals less than three minutes apart. Sara Wiedeman scored her team leading seventh goal of the year in the 68th minute to put Rowan on the board. Cali Sloan followed in the 71st minute with a goal off a free kick from 30 yards out that sailed just under the crossbar and into the back of the net to extend the lead, 2-0.
Gabby Matias collected five saves for the Roadrunners while Rowan goalkeeper Enya Carthy earned the shutout. The Profs held a 7-0 advantage in shots on goal in the game.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday night when they host William Paterson University in NJAC action at 7:00pm. Ramapo will honor their senior class in a pre-game ceremony.
