Union, NJ: The Kean University women's lacrosse team posted an 18-7 NJAC victory over Ramapo College this afternoon. The Cougars move to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 5-7 overall and 0-4 in the league.
Kean put in two goals from Kaylla Henry and Emilie Schultz before Ramapo got on the board.
Erin Smeilus took a pass from
Kassidy Baez in the 11th minute of action as she scored Ramapo's first goal of the game. Smeilus also collected her 100th career point on her first goal of the game to cut the Kean lead in half. Shannon Palen scored an unassisted goal for Kean before Smeilus once again scored for the Roadrunners, this time with an assist from
Esme Espinosa, 2-3. Kean then scored four straight goals to wrap up the first quarter with a 7-2 lead. In the second, the Cougars scored first with a goal from Skyler Ray before Ramapo added back-to-back goals to once again cut the Kean lead in half. Espniosa scored unassisted before
Lauren Travaglini hit the back of the net off a pass from Baez, 4-8. Kean scored three more goals to extend their lead, 11-4 before
Leah Whitney scored in the final seconds of the second quarter.
In the third, Kean would add six goals to their lead as they held the Roadrunners scoreless. In the fourth, Smeilus scored two more goals for the Roadrunners with assists from
Darrien Pennachio and Baez. Drew Coyle added the final goal for the Cougars as they earned the 18-7 victory.
Daniella Indomenico recorded 11 saves in goal for the Roadrunners. Smeilus scored four goals to lead the team on offense while Baez added three assists.
Lauren Travaglini added one goal, eight draw controls while
Bethany Glaser tallied seven draw controls and three ground balls.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, April 26th when they host Stockton University in NJAC action at 1:00pm. The team will honor their senior class prior to the game.
