Madison, NJ: The FDU-Florham University women's lacrosse team defeated Ramapo College today in non-conference action, 16-14. The Devils move to 2-6 overall while the Roadrunners fall to 4-3 on the season.
The Devils scored five goals in the final quarter of action to come from behind to secure the non-conference victory. Ramapo led 9-7 at the half before adding three in the third to FDU-Florham's four for a 12-11 lead.
Esme Espinosa and
Lauren Travaglini put Ramapo on the board in the first with back-to-back goals. Following FDU's first goal,
Bethany Glaser added a goal before the Devils added two goals to tie the game, 3-3. Glaser put Ramapo up 4-3 with a goal to close out the first. The Devils tied the game with a goal to start the second before Ramapo recorded three straight goals from Glaser (2) and
Jada Oddo for a 7-4 lead. Alexis Ashton put in a goal from the Devils before
Erin Smeilus and Glaser each scored a goal, 9-5. The Devils put in two goals to close out the second and scored the first two goals of the third to tie the game at nine. Ramapo took a 12-11 lead in the third with a goal from Oddo before Ashton tied the game once again in the fourth with a goal for the Devils, 12-12. Each team scored goals over the next seven minutes as Ramapo's Espionosa tied the game with 7:39 on the clock, 14-14. The Devils would score the eventual game winner off the stick of Claudia Zappia with 3:36 left on the clock. Julianna Medina put in an insurance goal for the Devils for the 16-14 victory.
For the Roadrunners, Glaser led the way with five goals while Espinosa added three.
Lauren Travaglini posted seven draw controls, two ground balls, two caused turnovers and one goal.
Leah Whitney added two goals, three ground balls, one caused turnover and one draw control.
Daniella Indomenico posted 13 saves in goal for the Roadrunners.
Ramapo returns to action on April 2nd at 6:00pm at the Athletic Center Turf as they host Delaware Valley University.
