Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's lacrosse team won their season opener tonight over visiting Wilkes University, 13-2. The Roadrunners move to 1-0 overall while the Colonels stand at 0-1 overall.
Ramapo scored one goal in the first and three in the second while they held Wilkes scoreless in the first half. The Roadrunners then poured in eight goals in the third while adding one in the fourth. The Colonels posted their two goals in the final frame of action.
Erin Smeilus led the way for Ramapo with four goals and one assists for five points while
Esme Espinosa tallied three goals and a team high four assists for seven points.
Kassidy Baez scored her first career goal with 1:31 remaining in the second quarter to give Ramapo a 4-0 lead. Baez finished with two goals while
Leah Whitney and
Bethany Glaser each recorded two goals and one assist.
Lauren Travaglini posted two assists and three caused turnovers.
Daniella Indomencio started in goal for the Roadrunners with three saves in 34:59 minutes of action.
Alyssa Curto played the final 25:01 of the game recording two saves.
Brooklyn Pedana tallied Wilkes two goals late in the fourth quarter. Brooklynn Donia collected seven saves in the net for the Colonels.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 22nd when they are on the road at King's College for a non-conference game starting at 1:00 PM.
