Mahwah, NJ: The Rutgers-Camden University women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College, 53-41. The Scarlet Raptors move to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners drop to 4-5 overall and 0-3 in the league.
The Scarlet Raptors brought a one-point lead into the second quarter before they outscored Ramapo, 23-12, and took a twelve-point lead into halftime, 32-20. Each team collected 11 points in the third and ten points in the fourth as Rutgers-Camden came away with the NJAC road victory, 53-41. In the third quarter, the Scarlet Raptors stretched their lead to 16 twice, the second time coming off a three-pointer from Tireya Wyatt with just over two minutes left in the quarter. Rutgers-Camden saw themselves up 46-33 with 8:07 left in the fourth quarter before Ramapo shrunk their lead to nine with a mini 4-0 run.
Denay Jones recorded back-to-back baskets for the Roadrunners to cut the Scarlet Raptor lead to just nine with less than five minutes left to play. Rutgers-Camden closed out the game on a 7-4 run for the NJAC road victory.
Three Scarlet Raptors scored in double figures for the team as they were led by Tamyia Collier who tallied 17 points while she added nine rebounds and three steals. Tamea El and Courtney Edmundo each recorded a double-double in the game. El led the way with 14 rebounds while recording 11 points and Edmundo posted 12 rebounds and ten points. Rutgers-Camden shot 31% (19-61) from the field, 8% (2-23) from the three-point line and 65% (13-20) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners were led by
Vanessa Kohler who posted nine points while Jones,
Lauren Flatt and
Jelly Quadrino each recorded six points while
Ava Burke led the way with a team high eight rebounds. Jones contributed with a team high five assists and three steals while she added five rebounds. Ramapo shot 26% (14-52) from the field and 76% (13-17) from the free throw line.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, December 10th when they host Montclair State University at the Bradley Center at 5:30 PM.
