RAMAPO BATTLES BACK TO DEFEAT RUTGERS-NEWARK, 3-1

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's volleyball team came back to defeat Rutgers-Newark University, 3-1 (16-25, 25-18, 25-13, 28-26) tonight at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners move to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders drop to 7-11 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

After dropping the first set of the match the Roadrunners came back to win the next to before ending the match with a 28-26 set four. Ramapo held a 24-21 lead before Rutgers-Newark scored the next four points on kills to take a 25-24 lead. Back-to-back kills from Asya Akar and Katie Bishop gave the Roadrunners a one-point lead, 26-25. Following a service error from Ramapo to re-tie the game at 26, Akar put down a kill for the Roadrunners for a 27-26 lead. Akar served for match point as the Scarlet Raiders recorded an attack error to give Ramapo the two-point lead, 28-26.

Akar led the Roadrunners with 21 kills, seven aces and 10 digs while hitting .372 in the match. Valentina Palen recorded 13 kills, one block and two digs while Scarlett Melick added seven kills, one solo block, one assist and five digs. Bishop dished out 39 assists while adding four kills and nine digs. Emma Garcia led the way on defense with 24 digs while Wendy Palaguachi added 14 of her own in the match. The team tallied 52 kills on 150 attempts with 29 errors.

Tracey Ilderis posted ten kills to lead Rutgers-Newark while she added one ace, one block and three digs. Cyan Long collected eight kills, two aces and 13 digs while Nicole Sullivan dished out 18 assists while adding three blocks and five digs. Miley Clenaghan led the team with 14 digs on defense. The team totaled 32 kills on 142 attempts with 23 errors.

The Roadrunners return to action on October 9th when they travel to Centenary University for a non-conference match set for 7:00 PM.
