Montclair, NJ: The Montclair State University field hockey team defeated Ramapo College today to open NJAC play, 5-1. The Red Hawks move to 3-7 overall, 1-0 in the conference while the Roadrunners now stand at 3-6 overall, 0-1 in the NJAC.
The two teams played to a 0-0 score through the first quarter before the Red Hawks put two goals on the board. Natalie Surma (17:38) and Bella Heiser (19:30) scored for MSU before Sadie Eichlin converted on a penalty stroke in the third quarter (32:30). Allison Tanasy scored off a penalty stroke (46:23), her third goal of the year for the Roadrunner. The Red Hawks added two more goals to extend their lead as Surma (50:45) and Kelly Westervelt (56:22) each scored, 5-1.
The Red Hawks recorded 25 shots in the game including 20 shots on goal along with 12 penalty corners. Sydney White posted six saves for MSU. The Roadrunners posted 10 shots in the game including seven on goal while they collected nine penalty corners.
Sam Fried tallied a career high 14 saves in the game for the Roadrunners.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8th when they travel to Eastern University for a non-conference game starting at 4:00 PM.
