Mahwah, NJ: The Union College field hockey team used a strong first quarter to defeat the Roadrunners 5-1 in non-conference action. The Garnet Chargers move to 5-2 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 1-6 on the season.
Union got on the board first with a goal in the third minute of action (2:55) as Maddie Greco took a pass from Rowan Dapson, 1-0. The Roadrunners would answer with their goal in the fourth minute (3:36) as
Ana Plaia tallied her second goal of the season while
Allison Tanasy recorded the assist. Union would add two goals late in the first as Reese Fendelet hit the back of the net (11:49) and Megan Dorsey converted a penalty stroke at the end of the quarter, 3-1.
Michelle Kukan and the Roadrunner defense kept Union off the board in the second quarter before the Garnet Chargers added one goal in the third and one in the fourth. Shaelyn Kelley scored in the third quarter while Grace Goddard posted a goal off an assist from Dorsey in the fourth, 5-1.
Kukan finished with five saves in the game for the Roadrunners while the Garnet Chargers tallied ten shots on goal to Ramapo's three. Union also held a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners in the game. Marion Stuntz posted two saves in the net for Union.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, September 25th when they host Vassar College in a non-conference game beginning at 3pm.
