Mahwah, NJ: The Cortland field hockey team used a strong offensive performance to defeat Ramapo College today in non-conference action. The Red Dragons remain undefeated with a 6-0 overall record while the Roadrunners fall to 1-5 on the year.
The Red Dragons, who are ranked #11 in the most recent NFHCA Top 25 poll, scored two goals in the first, three in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth quarter. Cortland earned a shutout in three of their six wins this season including their last two victories, both on the road.
Gianna Trunfio scored her fourth goal of the season to open the game in the 5th minute before Anna Healey tallied her first goal of the year on a penalty stroke to end the first quarter. Carolena Purpura and Sidney DeMagistris each posted their first goal of the season in the second while Keirra Ettere her first of three goals in the game for a 5-0 score. Jamie Snyder and Ettere scored in the third quarter while Ettere put one in the back of the net in the final quarter for the hat-trick and an 8-0 score.
Michelle Kukan posted 12 saves in the game for the Roadrunners. Emma Moran started for the Red Dragons and did not need to make a save in the first 41 minutes of action while Sofoia Cannistraci tallied two saves in the final 18 minutes of the game.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 21st when they host Union College in a non-conference game at 1:00pm. The Roadrunners are honoring all Military and First Responders – anyone who shows their valid ID earns free admission.
