Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's lacrosse team defeated Purchase College in non-conference action today, 15-2. The Roadrunners move to 2-1 overall while this was the season opener for the Panthers.
Bethany Glaser put Ramapo on the board with the first goal of the game (12:34) off an assist from
Esme Espinosa before Purchase tied the game with a goal from Catie Chios (10:58). Ramapo scored three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead into the second period.
Erin Smeilus put one in the back of the net off a pass from Glaser before Glaser hit the back of the net (4:24) off a pass from
Kelly Griffin. With the assist, Griffin collected her 100th career point as a Roadrunner. Espinosa scored the final goal of the first period for the 4-1 lead. Ramapo added seven unanswered goals in the second period as the defense and Roadrunner goalie
Alyssa Curto held the Panthers scoreless in the period. Ramapo held a 11-1 lead at halftime.
In the third, Ramapo added four goals while the Panthers were once again shutout while Purchase tacked on a goal in the fourth period. Glaser and Smeilus each collected five goals in the game for Ramapo while Espinosa tallied two. Griffin,
Julianna McClain and
Leah Whitney each tallied one for the Roadrunners. In goal, Curto posted seven saves this afternoon for Ramapo.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, March 13th when they travel to Maritime College for a 5:00 PM non-conference game.
