Throggs Neck, NY: The Maritime College women's lacrosse team held off a Ramapo comeback late in the game for a 10-8 non-conference victory. The Privateers remain undefeated at 3-0 while the Roadrunner now stand at 2-2 overall.
Erin Smeilus put Ramapo on the board first in the game with a goal off a pass from
Kelly Griffin before Emily Commodore tallied an unassisted goal (11:07) for Maritime for a 1-1 tie. Gabrielle Nicolosi and Smeilus added two more goals for both teams for a 2-2 score before the Privateers scored four unanswered goals, the fourth coming at the start of the second period for a 6-3 score. Leah Whitney each added a goal heading into halftime as Maritime led, 7-4. Maritime added three goals in the third while Griffin added one for Ramapo as the Roadrunners saw themselves down 10-5 to start the fourth period. Ramapo held Maritime scoreless in the fourth while they poured in three more goals to come within two. Griffin added two to her total for the day while Whitney added the third. Maritime kept Ramapo off the board in the final six minutes of action for the 10-8 non-conference win.
Griffin posted three goals and two assists to lead the Roadrunners while Whitney and Smeilus added two.
Esme Espinosa posted one goal while
Kaylie Gresek and
Ella Shade each contributed with two assists.
Daniella Indomenico collected 12 saves in 52:20 minutes of action while
Alyssa Curto did not face a shot in the final 7:40 in the net for Ramapo.
The Roadrunners return to action on March 16th when they travel to Mount Saint Mary College for a non-conference game at 1:00 PM.
