Newburgh, NY: The Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team earned a 22-16 non-conference win over Ramapo College today. The Knights move to 5-2 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 2-3 overall.
In the first period, Ramapo scored three goals to the Knights two as
Leah Whitney,
Kelly Griffin and
Erin Smeilus each hit the back of the net. In the second, Griffin scored first before the Knights scored four straight goals to take a 6-4 lead. Smeilus added one more for Ramapo before MSMC added five more goals while the Roadrunners tallied three more before the half. The Knights went into halftime with an 11-8 lead. Each team recorded five goals each in the third period as Ramapo came within three of tying the game, 13-16. The Knights put away six goals in the final period of action while Ramapo tacked on three more. MSMC scored the final three goals of the game for a 22-16 win.
Griffin tallied seven goals for the Roadrunners to lead the team while Smeilus posted five.
Kaylie Gresek led the way with three assists on the day.
Alyssa Curto collected 22 saves in goal in the game for Ramapo.
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, March 19th when they travel to the University of Mount Saint Vincent for a 4:00 PM game.
