Mahwah, NJ: The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team defeated Ramapo College tonight at the Athletic Center Turf Field, 18-16. The Valiants move to 3-4 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 3-5 on the year.
The Valiants scored two late goals in the fourth period and held off the Roadrunners in the final minutes to secure the two-goal non-conference victory. Ramapo's
Kelly Griffin scored her 100th career goal in the third period to tie the game at 10. Griffin becomes just the fourth Roadrunner in program history to achieve this feat. Griffin's goal in the third sparked a 4-0 run by Ramapo with goals from
Esme Espinosa,
Bethany Glaser and
Erin Smeilus as Ramapo took a 13-10 lead with just over 10 minutes left in the third. Manhattanville then scored six straight which spilled into the fourth for a 16-13 lead. The Roadrunners came back with goals from Griffin and Glaser to come within one, 15-16, while
Alyssa Curto made three crucial saves down the stretch to keep Ramapo in the game. Kaci Pierce and Pietra Cabral each put a goal into the back of the net for the Valiants for an 18-15 lead. Espinosa scored the final goal for Ramapo with 47 seconds remaining while Manhattanville held on for the 18-16 victory.
Griffin finished with five goals to lead Ramapo while Espinosa and Smeilus tallied four each. Glaser collected two and Gresek posted one. Curto collected nine saves in the game for the Roadrunners.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, April 3rd when they host DeSales University at 5:00 PM.
