Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team defeated Rutgers-Camden University, 69-40, today at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners move to 14-8 overall and 10-5 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 1-21 overall and 1-14 in the conference.
Ramapo jumped out to an 18-2 lead in the first quarter. After the Scarlet Raptors got on the board with the first basket of the game the Roadrunners would go on an 18-0 run to close out the first quarter. The run extended into the second as
Kellie Martinez and
Jada Thompson recorded back-to-back baskets before Rutgers-Camden's A'yanna Morton scored a jumper off a pass from Jania Pitts.
Karly Wittenbauer started a 6-0 Ramapo run as she connected on back-to-back baskets before
Jackie Ventricelli recorded a steal and a fastbreak basket for a 28-4 lead with just over six minutes left in the quarter. The Scarlet Raptors finished the quarter on a 10-0 run as the Roadrunners led, 28-14, at halftime.
In the third, the Roadrunners pushed the lead back to 20 points, 36-16, on a pair of free throws from
Reilly Sheeley. With 3:49 on the clock, Ventricelli sank a three-pointer to take a 42-19 lead, which started a 12-2 run to close out the third. Ramapo led 51-21 as Ventricelli closed out the run with another three-pointer, 51-21. Ramapo took their biggest lead in the game with 4:52 on the clock in the fourth as
Olivia Johnstone sank a three-pointer, 62-30. With 3:18 remaining,
Brianna Michel scored a free throw before Zhoei Travis sank a three-pointer for the Scarlet Raptors. Carter scored four points for the Roadrunners with a free throw and three-pointer to put Ramapo up, 69-38 with 1:28 on the clock. Rutgers-Camden scored the final basket of the game on a basket from Rahzirah Blocker as Ramapo posted a 69-40 win.
Thompson posted her 12th double of the year and her 28th of her career as she tallied a career high 17 rebounds while adding 18 points. Ventricelli led the way with 19 points and four steals while Burns added seven points, three rebounds and one block. Wittenbauer contributed with six points while Michel and Johnstone each recorded five. Ramapo shot 42% (29-68) from the floor, 21% (5-23) from the three-point line and 60% (6-10) from the free throw line.
