Mahwah, NJ: The Rutgers-Newark University women's volleyball team held off a Ramapo College comeback tonight with a 3-1 (25-13, 25-18, 17-25, 25-18) NJAC victory. The Scarlet Raiders improve to 9-11 overall and 1-3 in the conference while the Roadrunners move to 2-11 overall and 1-3 in the NJAC.
Three Scarlet Raiders collected double digit kills as they were led by Maryann Ijeh who posted 12 kills and four total blocks. Jaedyn Simba-Malasarte led the team with five aces along with nine digs and 11 kills. Bella Foster recorded 10 kills and three aces along with two total blocks. Angelyse Orellana dished out a team high 29 assists along with six digs and two kills. Elvin Karakaya posted a team high 19 digs on defense to lead the team. The team recorded 41 kills on 112 attempts and 19 errors.
Riley Stewart led the Roadrunners with 16 kills as she hit .361 in the match along with one solo block and four digs.
Amanda Fatouh posted 12 kills, three aces and eight digs while
Emily Shea tallied seven kills, five digs and two blocks.
Emma Garcia led the team on defense with 15 digs while
Katie Bishop dished out a match high 30 assists. The team recorded 37 kills on 108 attempts with 21 errors.
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, October 10th on the road at Centenary University for a non-conference match at 6pm.
