Mahwah, NJ: The Montclair State University women's lacrosse team came back in triple overtime to defeat Ramapo College, 13-12, this afternoon in NJAC action. The Red Hawks move to 4-8 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 4-9 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
Ramapo led 6-2 heading into halftime before MSU used a seven goal third quarter to begin their comeback including a goal in the final seconds for a, 9-8, Red Hawk lead. Ramapo tied the game at nine with a goal from
Colleen Mason to start the fourth before MSU went up one with a goal from Ashley Petrosine, 10-9. With just over three minutes left to play in the fourth, Mason collected her 45th goal of the season to tie the game at ten. Chelsea Stack and Haylee Roller put in back-to-back goals for MSU, 12-0. With under two minutes left in regulation,
Kelly Griffin put her 34th and 25th goals of the season, the second coming with 13 seconds remaining to tie the game at 12. It would take three overtime periods for either team to score as MSU put in the game winner off the stick of Joelle D'Angelo, 13-12.
Griffin led the way for Ramapo with five goals and three assists while Mason added three goals and Erin Smelius two.
Alyssa Curto collected ten saves in the net for the Roadrunners.
Joey Grotkopf posted 14 saves in the net for the Red Hawks in the road win. Petrosine led the way for MSU with four goals and one assist. Stack added three goals and D'Angelo posted two.
Ramapo returns to action on Monday, April 24th when they host USMMA in non-conference action at the Athletic Center at 4:00pm.
