Farmingdale, NY: The Farmingdale State College women's lacrosse team used a second half comeback and an overtime goal to secure a 12-11 win over Ramapo College this afternoon. The Rams move to 1-1 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 1-2 on the year.
Colleen Mason and Erin Smelius with three goals each while
Lauren Travaglini tacked on two goals of her own. Caitlin Featherstone,
Kelly Griffin and
Mary Rakowski each added one goal while
Kaylie Gresek recorded a team high three assists.
Alyssa Curto recorded six saves in the net for the Roadrunners.
Ramapo went up 4-1 after the first period before they tacked on three more goals in the second while the Rams added five of their own. At halftime, Ramapo led 7-6 before each team added two goals in the third while the Roadrunners held a one goal lead, 9-8. In the fourth, the Rams scored to tie the game before Featherstone and Mason scored back-to-back goals for an 11-9 lead with just over ten minutes left to play. The Rams would tie the game in the final five minutes of action with a goal at 4:45 and 2:03, 11-11. The game would head into overtime as the Rams were playing a man up following a Ramapo yellow card as Nicole Pontecorvo scored the game winner, 12-11.
Ronnie Reilly made 15 saves for Farmingdale State in the victory for the Rams. Nicole Pontecorvo led the way with four goals while Athena Vogiatzis added three and Megan Diamond led the team with five assists.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, March 11th when they travel to St. Joseph's College Long Island for a 12pm non-conference game.
