JOHNSTONE, THOMPSON LEAD RAMAPO OVER RUTGERS-CAMDEN

Camden, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team posted a 59-40 NJAC road win over Rutgers-Camden University this afternoon. The Roadrunners improve to 15-7 overall and 9-6 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors now stand at 3-19 overall and 1-14 in the NJAC.
 
The Roadrunners outscored the Scarlet Raptors in every quarter and held them to under ten points in the first and fourth in the 19 point victory. Olivia Johnstone posted 12 points for the Roadrunners finishing with two made three-pointers while adding seven rebounds. Jada Thompson earned her fifth double-double of the season with ten points and ten rebounds while adding four steals. Reilly Sheeley contributed with seven points, four rebounds and one steal while Carley Martin finished with seven points of her own. Salma Eddahiri posted ten rebounds while adding six points and two steals. Ramapo shot 33% (22-65) from the field, 21% (3-14) from the three-point line and 80% (12-15) from the free throw line. The Roadrunner defense forced 14 Scarlet Raptor turnovers which led to 11 points for Ramapo.
 
Ramapo opened up a seven point lead in the first quarter, 11-4, when Shannon Burns recorded a layup for the Roadrunners. The Scarlet Raptors cut the lead to three before Ramapo finished the quarter scoring four straight points from the free throw line taking a six point lead into the second, 15-9. Ramapo led by eight, 20-12, with less than eight minutes left to play in the second quarter on a layup from Thompson. Rutgers-Camden would tie the game at 20 with an 8-0 run before a pair of free throws from Karly Wittenbauer gave Ramapo back the lead. Ramapo wrapped up the second on an 8-1 run to take a seven point lead into halftime, 28-21.
 
In the third, the Roadrunners stretched their lead to 11 as Alison Ahern sank a jumper for a 37-26 lead with 2:39 on the clock. The Scarlet Raptors finished the quarter on a 6-3 run to cut the lead to eight, 40-32. Thompson gave Ramapo back their double digit lead in the fourth quarter with a jumper to open the quarter which started a 9-0 run. The run was capped off with a three-pointer from Johnstone, 49-32. Following three good free throws from Rutgers-Camden, Burns scored one of two free throws while Sheeley converted on an and-one play as Ramapo led 53-35 with less than four minutes left to play. Rahzirah Blocker scored a pair of free throws and Jania Pitts sank a three-pointer before Ramapo wrapped up the game on a 6-0 run for the 59-40 victory.
 
Jalissa Pitts led Rutgers-Camden with 18 points while adding seven rebounds and two steals. Blocker added 15 points while Jan. Pitts led the team with ten rebounds. The Scarlet Raptors shot 21% (12-55) from the floor, 11% (2-18) from the three-point line and 73% (14-19) from the free throw line.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, February 8th when they host Montclair State University in NJAC action at the Bradley Center at 5:30pm.
