#9 RUTGERS-NEWARK EARNS 3-0 VICTORY OVER RAMAPO IN MEN'S VOLLEYBALL SEASON OPENER

Newark, NJ:  The Rutgers Newark University men's volleyball team earned a NJAC victory tonight over Ramapo College, 3-0 (25-11, 27-25, 25-22). The Scarlet Raiders, who recently moved up one spot in the AVCA Top 15 Poll to #9, moved to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC conference. The Roadrunners open the season at 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC.
 
Andrew Zaleck led the both teams in the match with 16 total kills as he hit .433 with five digs and two aces. Aidan Apito recorded eight kills, three digs and two assisted blocks for Rutgers while Daniel Quay led the way with six total blocks including three solo. On defense, Matt Nikishin led the way with 13 digs while Justin Tuohy posted a team high 27 assists while adding seven digs and one assisted block. The Scarlet Raiders recorded a team hitting percentage of .278 in the match with 41 total kills on 90 attempts and 16 errors.
 
Conor Charlow led the Roadrunners with eight kills as he hit .467 in the match. Andrew Finnegan posted six kills, one ace and one dig while Sean Nieves tacked one five kills, five digs and one assisted block. JoJo Meyer dished out a team high 17 assists while adding five digs and one solo block while Reece Kirchofer led the team with six digs while he added two kills and one ace. Ramapo collected 23 total kills in the match on 79 attempts and 15 errors.
 
The Roadrunners return to action at home this Saturday, January 21st when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College in a non-conference match at 1pm.
