SOFTBALL SWEEPS MSU IN NJAC SOFTBALL ACTION

Montclair, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team swept NJAC rival Montclair State University today, 8-2 in game one and 7-0 in game two. The Roadrunners, who extend their win streak to five, improve to 13-4 overall and 5-1 in the NJAC while the Red Hawks move to 17-10 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
 
Game One
Ramapo scored all eight runs in the game in the top of the first inning. With one out, Carli Egan and Alexis Corra posted back-to-back singles before an infield error would allow Egan to score for the 1-0 lead. Katie Rygiel drove home the inning's second run with an RBI single before Avery Bartolomeo worked a 11-pitch walk to load the bases once again. Marissa DiPaolo then blasted the first pitch she saw over the center field fence, her first career grand slam, to extend the lead, 6-0. Jaclyn Monaco worked a two-out walk before stealing second base. Following a single from Krista Verrino, Monaco and Verrino each moved up with a stolen base. The throw from MSU trying to get Monaco at third base sailed into left field allowing her to score, 7-0. Verrino later scored on an infield single to Corra for the 8-0 lead
 
MSU got their two runs in the fourth inning with RBI doubles from Amber Reed and Stephanie Seretis.
 
Mahogany Wheeler (6-3) struck out four, walked just one and scattered four hits in the complete game win for the Roadrunners. Ramapo pounded out 11 hits in the game while Egan, Corra, Rygiel and Monaco all posted two hits each.
 
Game Two
The Roadrunners once again got on the board early in the first inning with two runs. Verrino led off with a hit by pitch before Egan and Corra each singled to load the bases with no outs. Wheeler then lifted a sac fly to center field which plated Verrino, 1-0. Rygiel then laced a single to left field allowing Egan to score for the 2-0 lead.
 
In the fourth, Anna Messina singled to right-center field before Monaco put down a bunt single and Verrino walked. Egan then lifted the ball down the right field line for a foul out sac fly as Messina tagged up to score, 3-0. The Roadrunners added four runs in the fifth inning. Wheeler led off with a double to center field before she was lifted for pinch runner Nicole Cerasi. Rygiel then recorded an RBI single to plate Cerasi, 4-0. Bartolomeo singled before DiPaolo belted a double into the left-center field gap allowing Rygiel and Bartolomeo to come home, 6-0. Egan worked a bases loaded walk to plate pinch-runner Julia Ciccone, 7-0, before MSU would get the final out of the inning.
 
Ramapo starting pitcher DiPaolo (6-1) worked a complete game with seven strikeouts and three walks while scattering seven hits. Rygiel, Bartolomeo and Messina led the team with two hits each for the Roadrunners.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, April 12th when they host Kean University in a pair of NJAC games starting at 3pm.
