Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept the College of New Jersey this afternoon and clinched the #3 seed in the NJAC Softball Tournament. The Roadrunners now stand at 25-8 overall and finish 14-4 in the conference while the Lions also stand at 25-8 overall and finish 13-5 in the NJAC. The Roadrunners will host the first round of the NJAC Tournament on Tuesday, May 3rd as they take on the #4 seed TCNJ at 4pm.
Game One
Ramapo scored three in the first and two in the second to take a quick 5-0 lead. In the first inning,
Krista Verrino was hit by a pitch and
Carli Egan singled to right field before
Alexis Corra laced a single to right field which allowed Verrino to score, 1-0.
Mahogany Wheeler then sent a single into right field which plated both Corra and Egan, 3-0. In the second Verrino poked a single to center field which allowed
Nicole Cerasi to score before Corra earned an RBI with a groundout that allowed
Jaclyn Monaco to score, 5-0.
TCNJ would come back with three runs in the fifth inning before Wheeler got out of the jam with the 5-3 lead in tacked. Ramapo extended their lead with two runs in the sixth inning. Monaco came around to score on Egan's infield single before Corra plated Verrino with an RBI sac foul out for the 7-3 lead.
Wheeler (10-6) earned the win in the circle for Ramapo. She struck out three, walked none and scattered seven hits in the complete game. Egan finished the game 3-3 with one run scored and one RBI while Verrino was 2-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Corra led the team with three RBI in the game while Wheeler finished with two RBI.
Game Two
Corra came up big in game two with a three-run home run, her fourth home run of the season, for a quick 3-0 lead. In the third,
Katie Rygiel plated Corra with an RBI single to extend the lead 4-0. TCNJ's Laure Conroy plated two runs for the Lions in the fifth inning to cut the lead in half before Ramapo added a run in the sixth. Rygiel plated pinch-runner
Melody Gleason with a hard hit single to center field for the 5-2 score.
Rygiel finished 3-3 in the game with two RBI while Cora finished 2-3 with two runs scored and three RBI.
Marissa DiPaolo (12-2) finished with two strikeouts while she scattered five hits in the complete game victory for the Roadrunners.
