Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team captured the 2022 ECAC Tournament Championship today with a 3-1 (23-25, 27-25, 25-9, 26-24) victory over Penn State University-Altoona. The Roadrunners wrap up the season with a 17-13 record while the Lions finish the season with a 16-13 record.
This is the 6th ECAC Championship in program history (2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012) and the first under head coach
Mike Hrehovcik. The Roadrunners last won the tournament during the 2012 season while it was Hrehovcik's senior year.
To get to the championship match the Roadrunners had to first get past NJAC rival Kean University in the second semifinal match of the day. The Cougars were seeded #3 while the Roadrunners were seeded #2. Ramapo came away with a 25-21, 27-25, 25-17 victory to advance to the championship match.
Against Kean,
Andrew Finnegan led the way with 20 kills while
Jason van der Wilt posted 15 and
Reece Kirchofer added seven.
Conor Charlow collected a team high four blocks while
Josh Titus dished out a team high 39 assists. Finnegan also led the team with 15 digs while
Tyler Plitt collected 14 of his own. Ramapo hit .289 in the match with 49 total kills on 121 attempts and 14 errors.
In the Championship match against #4 seeded PSU-Altoona, the Roadrunners hit .284 with 56 total kills on 141 attempts and 16 errors. The Roadrunners were led by Finnegan who once again tallied 20 kills while van der wilt hit .400 in the match with 17 kills. Finnegan also posted 14 digs, two total blocks and two assists. Van der Wilt added two assists, one ace, nine digs and two total blocks. Charlow posted nine kills, once assist, five digs while he posted a team high three solo blocks and seven assisted blocks in the match. Titus dished out 45 assists while Plitt led the way with 18 digs on defense. Finnegan and van der Wilt were named to the ECAC All-Tournament Team while Plitt was named Tournament MVP.
For PSU, Philip Silva posted a match-high 22 kills while he added 11 digs. Jared Bodisch posted 13 kills while Trey Sadler added ten during the match. Connor Baker dished out 48 assists while Micah Brinker tallied a team high 20 digs. The team posted 53 kills on 146 attempts with 28 errors in the match. For their efforts in the tournament, Sadler, Silva and Bodisch all earned All-Tournament team honors.
