Mahwah, NJ: The Farmingdale State College women's lacrosse team came back to defeat Ramapo College 10-9 today in non-conference action. This was the season opener for the Roadrunners while the Rams moved to 1-2 overall.
Ramapo got on the board first in the game with a goal from
Esme Espinosa before the Rams recorded three straight goals for a 3-1 lead with less than 2:30 left to play in the first quarter. Espinosa scored the first goal of the second quarter before
Colleen Mason added a goal for Ramapo to tie the game, 3-3.
Kelly Griffin put the Roadrunners in the lead in the third quarter before
Ella Shade and
Kaylie Gresek each scored goals in the third to put them up 6-3. Anna Zaborowska and Marina Zaumbrunn hit the back of the net to come within one, 5-6 before Mason made it 7-5 Ramapo to close out the third quarter. The Rams added four straight goals to start the fourth quarter as they took a 9-7 lead with less than 7:30 left to play in the game. Griffin added a goal with 6:06 on the clock to come within one of tying it, 8-9 before Megan Diamond added Farmingdale State's final goal of the game with 4:10 left on the clock. The Ram defense held Ramapo to just one goal in the final four minutes of action as
Emma Cowap scored the final goal for Ramapo with under a minute to play. The Rams were able to hold the Roadrunners in the final moments of the game for the 10-9 road win.
Griffin, Mason, Espinosa all tallied two goals to lead the Roadrunners today while goalie
Alyssa Curto posted eight saves.
Diamond and Zumbrunn led all scorers with three goals each for the Rams while Zaborowska added two for the team. Ronnie Reilly posted 13 saves for the Rams in the net.
Ramapo returns to action on March 9th when they travel to Mount Saint Mary's College for a non-conference game at 6pm.
