Pomona, NJ: The Ramapo College field hockey team won a key NJAC match-up this afternoon with a 2-1 win over Stockton University. The Roadrunners now stand at 10-3 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC while the Ospreys move to 6-7 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
The Roadrunners came from behind to win a key NJAC game today as they saw themselves down 1-0 early in the first quarter. Stockton put in a goal from Alexandria Palumbo in the 8th minute of action (7:36). Neither team scored in the second quarter as Stockton saw themselves up 1-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Ramapo was awarded a penalty stroke in the 45th minute (44:41) as
Katie Yarussi converted and tied the game with her third goal of the season, 1-1. With 53:00 on the clock
Allison Tanasy scored her 5th goal of the year off a pass from
Mariah Tovar to put the Roadrunners up 2-1 with just seven minutes left to play. The Ramapo defense held Stockton to no shots in the final minutes of action to earn the victory.
Ramapo posted ten shots in the game including five on goal while Stockton recorded 14 in the game and six on goal. The Roadrunners earned 11 penalty corners while the Ospreys posted 14.
Michelle Kukan collected five saves in the net for the Roadrunners including four in the third quarter.
Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, October 18th when they take on #8 Kean University in a NJAC match-up at 3:30pm.
