Mahwah, NJ: The Kean University women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College tonight in NJAC action, 66-58. The Cougars advance to 12-6 overall, 11-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Roadrunners stand at 7-9 overall, 6-7 in the conference.
The Cougars dominated the last 2:36 of play in the first quarter with a 9-0 run, behind five points from Brittany Graff, 19-14. Ramapo would answer back in the second quarter with a mini 6-0 run behind four points from
Jackie Ventricelli, coming within one of the Cougars, 20-21. The Cougars answered back with six points, before
Bridget Cahill sank back-to-back shots netting the Roadrunners five points, 25-27. The two teams traded baskets and in the last 2:34, a jump shot from Cahill and a three-pointer from
Lyndsey Ross would send the two teams into the locker room tied at 32.
Kean went on a 7-0 run in the third quarter over 1:37 of play behind two jump shots from Sarah Olivero to extend their lead, 44-38. The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter but Kean would score the final points extending their lead, 54-44. The Roadrunners went on a 7-0 run capped off by a jump shot from
Jada Thompson to come within four, 54-60. The two teams traded baskets throughout the remainder of the game with the Cougars coming away with the NJAC Road win, 66-58.
The Roadrunners were led by Thompson with 16 points and four assists.
Alie Wickersheim netted 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for her fifth double double of the season. Ramapo shot 21-60 (35%) from the field, 3-18 (17%) from beyond the three-point line, and 13-21 (62%) from the free throw line.
Graff led Kean University with 21 points, Shannon McCoy netted 15, while Kayla Anderson had 10 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. The Cougars shot 26-71 (37%) from the field, 4-24 (17%) from the three-point line, and 10-14 (71%) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, February 2 when they travel to Rutgers-Newark for a 6pm New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up.
