Glassboro, NJ: The Rowan University softball team swept Ramapo College today in NJAC action, 3-2 in eight innings and 10-5 in game two. The Profs move to 16-4 overall and 6-0 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 2-10 overall and 2-8 in the conference.
Game one
The Roadrunners scored first in the game taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.
Thu Deo laced a single to right-center field allowing
Carli Egan to cross home plate. Egan led off the inning with a single of her own to reach base.
The Profs would tie the game in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single from Catherine Thomas which plated Sam Marasheski. Neither team pushed a run across through seven innings forcing the game to extra innings. Ramapo started with pinch runner Nicole Cersasi at second base in the top of the eighth before she moved to third on a sac bunt. Egan then drove her home with a sac fly for a 2-1 lead before Rowan got out of the inning.
In the bottom half of the eighth, Marasheski started on second base for the Profs and moved to third on a sac bunt. Payton MacNair then singled her home to tie the game 2-2 before Morgan Zane singled to put runners at first and second with one out. Korie Hague then ripped a double to left-center field allowing MacNair to score the game-winning run, 3-2.
Emily August went the distance for the Profs in the circle to earn the win. She struck out six, walked two and scattered four hits.
Mahogany Wheeler took the tough loss for Ramapo. She surrendered seven hits, three runs (two earned) and walked three. Four different Roadrunners each recorded a hit in the game while Egan and Deo tallied one RBI each.
Game Two
It was the Roadrunners who got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first inning. Wheeler drove home
Anna Messina and
Krista Verrino with a 2-RBI double for a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning Rowan added one run as Zane plated MacNair with an RBI double of her own.
Rowan added five runs in the second and four runs in the third to take a 10-2 lead. Ramapo would add one run in the fifth and two runs in the top of the seventh to cut the Rowan lead in half. Deo plated
Carli Egan with an RBI groundout in the fifth before Verrino scored the first run in the seventh on a fielder's choice off the bat of
Avery Bartolomeo. Egan later scored on another fielder's choice from Deo. Rowan would induce a groundout to end the Roadrunner comeback and secure the 10-5 win.
Thomas (5-2) earned the win in relief for the Profs. She worked the final four innings, surrendering three hits, three runs and walking two. Alexa Saccomanno started the game for Rowan. She struck out three, walked two and scattered five Ramapo hits.
Megan Giesecke took the loss in the circle for the Roadrunners. She struck out two, walked four and let up 11 hits and ten runs (nine earned). Verrino led the way at the plate in game two as she finished 2-2 with two walks and two runs scored while Wheeler was 2-3 with two RBI.
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, April 20th when they host Rutgers-Newark University in a doubleheader at 3:00pm.
