Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team split a pair of games against William Paterson University today. The Roadrunners took game one, 2-1 while the Pioneers won 6-4 in game two.

In game one, Ramapo scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning.

WPU tacked on their lone run in the top of the sixth inning when Pace ripped an RBI double to right-center field plating Bigos to come within one. The Pioneers threatened to tie the game in the top of the seventh but the Ramapo defense came up big with a double play to end the game. The Pioneers had a runner on third base with one out before a fly ball was hit to Deo in center field. Deo caught the ball and fired home to Ramapo catcher Bartolomeo who applied the tag on the WPU baserunner trying to score for the double play.

Mahogany Wheeler struck out three, walked two and scattered four hits in the complete game win for the Roadrunners. Egan finished the game 2-3 with one RBI.

In game two, WPU scored one run in the top of the first inning on an RBI groundout from Pace that allowed Archibold to score, 1-0.

The Roadrunners came back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second. Deo laced a single to right field and moved to third on an error on the play.
Carley Layton put down a bunt single before Deo scored on a pass ball. Kacie McNichol poked a single through the left side of the infield allowing Layton to score for the team's second run.

WPU added two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth for a 6-2 lead. Ramapo tacked on one run in the fifth inning when Wheeler laced a double to the left-center field wall allowing Verrino to cross home plate, 3-6. The Roadrunners threatened in the bottom of the seventh. Verrino led off with a double before Egan singled to right field to put runners on first and third with no outs. Wheeler poked a single to center field plating Verrino before the Pioneer defense shut down the Ramapo come back to take the game 6-4.

Lexi Corio (1-0) earned the win on the mound for WPU in relief. She struck out one, walked none and scattered three hits in three complete innings of work.

Megan Giesecke took the loss for Ramapo. She struck out five and walked four in 4.1 innings of work. Verrino, Egan and Wheeler all collected two hits for the Roadrunners in game two.

The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, April 13th when they travel to Montclair State University for a NJAC double header at 3pm.
