Montclair, NJ: The Montclair State softball team swept Ramapo College today, 8-2 and 6-1 in NJAC conference action. The Red Hawks improve to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 2-8 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

Game One
The Roadrunners got on the board in the top of the second inning. Melanie Gleason reached base on a fielding error before
Jaclyn Monaco laced a single to put runners on the corners with two outs.
Avery Bartolomeo then poked a single back up the middle which drove home Gleason for the 1-0 lead.

With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the third inning, Kayla Gallo drew a walk to force home one run before Kayla Cosentino laced a two-RBI double for a 3-1 lead. Back-to-back RBI singles from Amber Reed and Jenna Meluso pushed the MSU lead to 5-1. Alexis Law drove home the sixth run of the inning with a sac fly to center field before Danielle Sibilio hit an RBI double to right field, 7-1. A walk and single loaded the bases for the Red Hawks with two outs before the Roadrunner defense got out of the inning with a line out to centerfield.

Ramapo added one run in the top of the fourth when Bartolomeo drove home pinch runner
Nicole Cerasi with an RBI single to left field. In the sixth, the Red Hawks added the final run of the game when Amber Reed knocked home one run with a single allowing Gallo to score the 8-2 lead.

Ali Cavallaro (4-1) struck out two, walked three and surrendered seven hits and two runs (one earned) for MSU. Four different Red Hawks recorded two hits in the game.

Mahogany Wheeler took the loss in the circle for Ramapo. She walked four and let up 11 hits, and eight runs (five earned). Bartolomeo led the team at the plate finishing 2-3 with two RBI.

Game Two
In the bottom of the first, Amber Powers led off with a double before moving to third on a sac bunt. She later scored on a double from Gallo for an early 1-0 lead. With runners on the corners and one out, the Roadrunners got out of the inning by turning a 6-4-3 double play.

In the bottom of the third, Meluso worked a bases loaded walk to force home the second run of the game in Alyssa Borozan before Alexis Law singled home Consentino for a 3-0 lead. With two outs and the bases loaded, Chloe Saperstein laced a single to right field plating two more runs, 5-0.

Ramapo scored their first run in the top of the fourth inning when Wheeler crossed home plate on
Thu Deo's infield single, 1-5. MSU added their final run in the bottom of the sixth as Powers scored on Borozan's RBI double, 6-1.

Volante earned the win in the circle for the Red Hawks. She struck out three, walked one and scattered five hits in the complete game.

Megan Giesecke took the loss in the circle for the Roadrunners. She struck out two, walked seven and let up ten hits and six runs.

The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, April 17th when they travel to NJAC rival Rowan University for a double header at 1pm.
