Box Score Haledon, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated the Pioneers of William Paterson University today in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up, 69-49. The Roadrunners improve to 9-7 overall, 5-4 in the NJAC while the Pioneers fall to 7-9 overall, 3-6 in the conference.
The Roadrunners were led by
Rob McWilliams with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Jordan Zagadou netted 14 points and collected two blocks, while
Jason Battle netted 11 points.
Connor Romano and
Marquise Kindel each pulled down six rebounds. The Roadrunners shot 25-53 (47%) from the field, and 16-19 (84%) from the line while forcing 20 turnovers. Sammy Asani led the Pioneers with 13 points and eight rebounds. Domenic Mignone netted 11 points, while Henry Voorhees pulled down seven rebounds. William Paterson shot 18-56 (32%) from the field and 7-11 (64%) from the line.
The Roadrunners jumped to an early five-point lead after a mini 7-0 run capped off by a three-point shot from McWilliams, 7-2. A layup from Malcolm McLeod put the Pioneers within two, exactly one minute later two points from Voorhees would tie the game at nine, as the teams would go on to trade baskets. With 7:21 remaining in the first half
Matt Latka sparked a mini 7-0 run for the Roadrunners capped off by a layup from
Jason Battle putting the Roadrunners on top, 25-19. The Roadrunners dominated the last 3:39 of play in the half going on a 15-0 run behind six points from Zagadou, heading into the locker room with an 18-point lead, 42-24.
The Roadrunners continued strong in the second half, coming out of the locker room to net four points in less than 30 seconds before William Paterson would tack on four more points, 28-46. Zagadou would spark another run for the Roadrunners capped off by a layup from
Marquise Kindel, giving Ramapo the largest lead of the game, 54-28. Anthony Uribe went up for a layup for William Paterson which began an 8-0 run, closing the gap to 18. The two teams would go on to trade baskets for the remainder of the period but the Roadrunners would remain on top coming away with the win, 69-49.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, January 22 at 8:00pm when they travel to Rutgers-Newark for a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up.
