Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team lost a tough battle to The College of New Jersey today in a New Jersey Athletic Conference double-header match-up at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners fell 0-4 in game one before dropping the second game, 1-10 in five innings. With the two losses the Roadrunners now stand at 8-8 overall and 0-2 in the NJAC. TCNJ improves to 15-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Game 1: The Lions quickly got on the board in the 1st inning as Megan Mayernik scored an unearned run and Gaby Bennett singled to right center later in the inning to score Jess McGuire to go ahead 2-0. They would tack on two more runs in the 5th as Kaitlin Koci homered to right center scoring McGuire. The score would stand as the Lions shut out Ramapo, 4-0.
McGuire went 2-3 with two runs scored and Mayernik hit 2-4 with a run of her own. For Ramapo, Jackie Howarth and Sarah Browning got the lone hits for the Roadrunners hitting 1-2 and 1-3 respectively.
Eliza Sweet gets the win to improve to 7-2. She struck out six and walked just one. Erin Fitzsimmons takes the loss falling to 3-6 with two strike outs and two walks letting up all four runs.
Game 2: TCNJ had control of the game quickly after the first two innings as they led, 10-0 after two. Katie Wincho would score first and Lauren Conroy crossed home plate second which turned out to be the winning run. The Lions tacked on three more in the inning to lead the Roadrunners, 5-0 after one.
The 2nd inning would go much of the same as the Lions got on top 10-0 after two. Mayernik would drive in two at the close of the inning with a two-run single to right field.
The Roadrunners finally got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd as Howarth would cross the plate off a sac fly from Carli Egan.
Bennett went 2-4 with two runs scored and Conroy scored two of her own. Mayernik hit 1-3 with three RBI. Krista Verrino hit 2-3 in the loss with Howarth scoring the lone run.
Alanna Namit gets the win. She struck out zero and walked five. She improves to 7-2. Jessica Becchetti gets the loss for Ramapo falling to 4-2. She struck out none and walked four, letting up five runs in .2 innings pitched.
Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, April 2nd when they travel to Rutgers Camden for a 3pm double-header NJAC match-up.
