Camden, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team picked up two wins today on the road in a key New Jersey Athletic Conference competition against Rutgers Camden. The Roadrunners recorded a 6-1 win in game one before earning the double-header sweep with a 4-1 win in game two. With the victory the Roadrunners improve to 10-8 overall and 2-2 in the NJAC. Rutgers Camden falls to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
Game 1: Krista Verrino hit 2-4 with two runs scored and Jackie Howarth and Harper Patsko hit 1-3 each with a run as they led the Roadrunners to the game one victory. Erin Fitzsimmons gets the win as she pitched the entire seven innings. She struck out three and walked two while letting up four hits and just one run. Fitzsimmons improves to 4-6 on the year.
Ramapo would get on the board early in the game as two runs crossed in the 1st inning. Howarth would score on a wild pitch after reaching first on a hit by pitch and advancing on a double from Verrino. Verrino came home on a sac fly from Carli Egan.
The Roadrunners tacked on a run from Sarah Browning in the 2nd to go ahead 3-0 before the Scarlet Raptors got on the board in the bottom of the 4th with a run from Alexis Davis. She singled to left field to lead off the inning.
The run would be the lone run for Rutgers Camden as Ramapo added three more runs in the 7th to take the game, 6-1.
Sarah Byrnes gets the loss falling to 4-4 overall as she struck out three and walked two, letting up eight hits in seven innings of work.
Game 2: Egan led Ramapo in game two as she hit 3-4 with one run scored and two RBI. Howarth went 1-3 with one run scored and one RBI and Browning went 2-4 with one run scored. Olivia Mahon also hit 1-3 with one run scored. Fitzsimmons again gets the win as she pitched the complete game. She stuck out four and walked just one.
The 4th inning proved to be successful for Ramapo as they crossed three runs to take the lead. Howarth doubled to right center which drove in Browning and Egan singled to center field to bring home Howarth and Mahon.
The Scarlet Raptors got their lone run on the board in the bottom of the inning as Marissa Beebe scored off a Kimmy Musarra single. Ramapo tacked on a final run in the 6th to take the game, 4-1.
Kendra Pfister gets the loss as she pitched seven innings with three strikeouts and four walks. She let up ten hits and all four runs, three earned, in the game.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow, April 3rd when they host Stevens Institute of Technology on the Mahwah campus.
