FITZSIMMONS FIRES ONE-HITTER IN 7-1 WIN

Ramapo falls to St. Norbert 9-1 in game one of the day

Kissimmee, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team split a pair of games today at The Spring Games at Osceola County Softball Complex. The Roadrunners fell to St. Norbert College 9-5 before they defeated St. Joseph's College Long Island 7-1.
 
Game 1
Ramapo jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before St. Norbert used two four-run innings to take an 8-3 lead. In the first, Jackie Howarth singled and Krista Verrino walked to put runners on before Carli Egan laced a single up the middle to plate the first run of the inning 1-0. Verrino advanced to third on the throw home before Harper Patsko put down a bunt single which allowed Verrino to score 2-0. Egan later scored on Olivia Mahon's single to center field to push the score 3-0.
 
In the top of the second inning, St. Norbert loaded the bases with no outs before Ashley Zimmerman poked a single through the infield to plate the first run of the inning. A sac fly from Randi Morack plated Alyssa Sikora before two runs came around to score on an error in the outfield for the 4-3 lead. Back-to-back doubles from Sarah Kolterman and Sikora in the top of the third inning plated two runs before Taylor Earing scored on a sac fly to short left field 6-3. A bases loaded walk pushed the score to 8-3 before Ramapo got out of the inning. St. Norbert added one more run in the fourth when Zimmerman smacked a double to left field with two outs allowing Taylor Ullman to score 9-3.
 
The Roadrunners got one run back in the fourth and sixth innings. With one out in the fourth, Kristen Ruggiero walked before Sarah Browning reached on an infield error to put runners at first and second. Following the second out, Howarth ripped a double to left center allowing Ruggiero to score. In the sixth, pinch runner Kasie McNichol scored on an outfield error by St. Norbert for the 5-9 score.
 
Ramapo would leave two Roadrunners stranded in the seventh inning as St. Norbert got out of a first and second, one-out jam to earn the 9-5 win. Emma Molehouse went the distance for St. Norbert, she struck out three, walked three and scattered nine hits in the game.
 
Jessica Becchetti (1-1) took the loss for Ramapo working into the third inning. She struck out two, walked one and surrendered five hits and seven runs (five earned). Ramapo collected nine hits in the game while Howarth, Patsko and Mahon all finished 2-4 on the day.
 
Game two
Ramapo starting pitcher Erin Fitzsimmons (2-2) fired a one-hitter with nine strikeouts and two walks in the complete game win. The Roadrunners took a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The bases were loaded with no outs when Ruggiero drew a walk to push home Howarth with the game's first run. Mahon then walked allowing Verrino to score before Olivia Wang drove home two runs with a single to right field 4-0.
 
St. Joseph's scored their lone run in the bottom half of the inning without earning a hit. Russo led off with a walk, reached second on an error before moving to third on Ramapo's second error of the inning. She raced home when as the throw down to second base was not in time.
 
In the fifth, Ramapo scored two runs on three hits to extend the lead 6-1. Egan and Ruggiero singled to start the inning before Patsko moved them up one base with a sac bunt. Mahon then drove home Egan with a single to right-center field before Browning laid down a fielder's choice, sac bunt as Ruggiero slide home safely for the 6-1 score. In the sixth inning Howarth led off with a single, stole second and moved to third on Egan's single. During Patsko's at-bat, Howarth stole home for a 7-1 lead.
 
Fitzsimmons and the Ramapo defense would send St. Joseph's down in order in the sixth and seventh innings to earn the victory. Egan finished 3-3 with one run scored while Howarth and Verrino each finished 2-4 at the plate.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, March 20th when they go up against Benedictine University (9:30am) and Marian University (2:15pm).
