RAMAPO SWEEPS RUTGERS-CAMDEN IN NJAC ACTION

Union, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team swept Rutgers-Camden University today 1-0 & 2-1 in eight innings. The Roadrunners improve to 20-10 overall, 9-5 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 10-19 overall and 3-13 in the conference.

Game One
The game ended up being a pitcher's duel until Ramapo pushed the game-winning run across in the bottom of the seventh. Sisi Machinski ripped a single up the middle before Carli Egan poked a single down the right field line allowing Machinski to reach third base with no outs. Jackie Howarth then stepped to the plate and took the first pitch she saw into the left center field gap allowing Machinski to score 1-0.

Ramapo starting pitcher Katrina Buczkowski (9-1) spun a one-hit shutout, her fifth shutout of the season. She struck out six and walked one in the complete game win. Christina Brizek finished 2-3 while five other Roadrunners collected one hit in the game.

Game two
Ramapo got on the board in the bottom of the first inning before the Scarlet Raptors scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning. The game would extend into the eighth inning and following a key defensive out in the top of the eight for Ramapo, the Roadrunners would plate the game-winning run in the bottom half of the inning for the 2-1 walk-off win.

Howarth led off the first inning with a double before she stole third base. Shannon Cox then drove her home with a double of her own to left field for a 1-0 lead. Rutgers-Camden scored the game-tying run in the top of the sixth inning when Gabrielle Castellini led off the inning with a double. She moved to third on a single to short center field before scoring on an infield throwing error 1-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Machinski worked a leadoff walk before moving to second on a sac bunt from Carli Egan. Howarth was intentionally walked before they moved up to second and third with two outs. The Scarlet Raiders then induced a fly out to deep center field to end the Roadrunner threat.

In the top of the eighth, Rutgers-Camden had Kacie Pisani on second base for the international tie-breaker rule. Nina Arroyo moved her to third with a sac bunt before Castellini walked to put runners on first and third with one out. The Roadrunners then picked off Pisani at third base. Cox through down to second base to shortstop Nicole Hernandez to tag out Castellini who was attempting to get into a run down between first and second. Hernandez then raced towards Pisani down the third base line back towards third base before she dove and tagged her for the second out of the inning. Ramapo relief pitcher Brizek then induced a ground out to end the inning setting up the comeback for the Roadrunners.

Cox was placed on second and advanced to third on a wild pitch before Brizek helped her own cause and laced a single into center field allowing Cox to score with the game-winning run 2-1. Brizek (8-2) came into the game on the mound in the top of the sixth inning and earned the win.  She struck out five, walked one and scattered two hits in the final three innings of work. Ramapo starting pitcher Erin Fitzsimmons worked the first five innings. She struck out three, walked two and scattered three hits without surrendering a run.

The Roadrunners are scheduled to take on Rutgers-Newark University tomorrow afternoon at Kean University's Cougar Field at 4pm. Ramapo will serve as the home team.
