SOFTBALL SPLITS AT #18 ROWAN

BRIZEK FIRES ONE-HITTER IN GAME ONE IN 1-0 SHUTOUT

Glassboro, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team split a NJAC double header on the road at #18 Rowan University. The Roadrunners took game one 1-0 before the Profs battled back to win game two 7-4. The Roadrunners now stand at 21-11 overall, 10-6 in the NJAC while the Profs wrap up the regular season 28-9-1 overall and 12-6 in the conference.
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon against Rutgers-Newark University in the final games of the NJAC regular season. The NJAC Tournament bracket will be released by the conference on Sunday night on completion of regular season play.
 
Game One
The Roadrunners broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the fifth inning when Nicole Hernandez ripped a double to center field and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Sisi Machinski then laced a single into centerfield plating Hernandez for the 1-0 lead.
 
The Ramapo defense and starting pitcher Christina Brizek held the Profs the final three innings. Brizek spun a complete game one-hitter with five strikeouts and four walks.
 
Game Two
Ramapo got on the board with a run in the first inning when Brizek lifted a sac fly to left field with the bases loaded allowing Jackie Howarth to score 1-0. Shannon Cox later scored on a wild pitch in the third inning before Brizek connected on her fourth home run of the season, a solo shot in the top of the fifth inning for a 3-0 lead.
 
Rowan came back to tie the game in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Three doubles from Morgan Smith, Kelly Duffy and Christina Guarino would tie the game 3-3 with no outs. Following a pitching change for the Roadrunners and the go-ahead run standing on third base, Ramapo got out of the jam recording the next three outs.
 
In the top of the sixth inning, Ramapo scratched across a run to retake the lead 4-3. Machinski singled, stole second and later scored when Carli Egan ripped a double into the left field gap.
 
Rowan came back to take the lead in the bottom half of the inning when they scored four runs on three hits. The inning was highlighted by Duffy who smacked a double that plated two runs for the Profs while Smith scored on an error on the play as they took a 6-4 lead. Guarino then lifted a sac fly to right field to extend the lead 7-4. Jesse DeDomenico (15-5), who came into the game in the top of the sixth inning for the Profs, would earn the win in relief. She struck out all four batters she faced in 1.1 innings of work.
 
Erin Fitzsimmons started on the mound for Ramapo working the first four innings. She struck out one, walked one and surrendered three runs and nine hits. Katrina Buczkowski (9-2) took the loss in relief working the final two innings. She struck out one, walked one and surrendered three hits and four runs.
 
The Roadrunners will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host Rutgers-Newark University at the Kean University Cougar Softball Field at 1pm.
