Kissimmee, FL: The Ramapo College softball team split a pair of games today at the Rebel Spring Games and now stand at 7-3 overall. The Roadrunners defeated Lesley University 8-0 in six innings before Marietta College pushed across two late runs to win a 3-2 game.
In game one, Ramapo scored a run in every inning except the second en route to an 8-0 win over Lesley (1-7).
Nicole Mahoney led the Roadrunners at the plate finishing 3-4 with two runs scored, three RBI and her first home run of the season. In the first inning Ramapo put up two runs on the board.
Jackie Howarth singled and
Ally Spellman drew a four-pitch walk before
Kendra Decker poked an RBI single to right centerfield plating Howarth for a 1-0 lead. Mahoney then laced a single to left field allowing Spellman to score taking a 2-0 lead.
Mahoney led off the third inning with her first homerun of the season over the left field wall putting the Roadrunners up 3-0. Ramapo added three runs in the fourth taking a 6-0 lead. The inning was highlighted by a RBI double from
Harper Patsko as Mahoney crossed home plate. Ramapo would put the game away in the fifth inning with two runs extending the lead 8-0.
Olivia Mahon led off with a walk and was lifted for pinch runner
Kristen Ruggiero. Ruggiero moved to second on a sac bunt before pinch hitter
Shannon Cox drove a double down the left field line plating Ruggiero with the seventh run of the game. Mahoney then laced a single to left field plating Howarth with the game-winning run.
Ramapo belted out 11 hits in the game while starting pitcher
Katrina Buczkowski (3-1) worked a complete game. She struck out four, walked none and scattered five hits over five innings of work. Howarth and Patsko each collected two hits in the game while Decker recorded two RBI.
In game two, Marietta (5-8) pushed across two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 3-2 and held off a Ramapo come back in the top of the seventh to win the game.
The Roadrunners got on the board in the top of the first inning with two runs on only one hit. With on out Spellman walked,
Nicole Hernandez singles and Mahoney walked to load the bases. Spellman then came home on an infield error before
Grace Brennan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded allowing Hernandez to score for a 2-0 lead.
Marietta scored one run in the fourth when Marshall was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded allowing Mays to touch home plate 2-1. The Pioneers would score two unearned runs in the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Bloom scored the game-tying run after smacking a ground rule double to left field and later came home on an infield throwing error by the Roadrunners for a 2-2 game. Marietta then plated the game-winning run on a sac fly down the left field line.
Ramapo put up a fight in the top of the seventh inning but could not push a run across to extend the game as the Pioneers came away with the 3-2 win.
Christina Brizek earned a no-decision on the mound for Ramapo. She worked the first five innings, striking out two, walking two and surrendering only one hit.
Erin Fitzsimmons (2-1) took the hard luck loss; she struck out one, walked none and surrendered two runs (both unearned).
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow in their final day at the Rebel Spring Games when they take on Franklin & Marshall College at 11:15am and SUNY Cortland at 1:30pm.
