SOFTBALL SPLITS IN FINAL DAY AT REBEL SPRING GAMES

Kissimmee, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team posted a 10-6 win over Franklin & Marshall before falling 4-3 to SUNY Cortland on the final day of the Rebel Spring Games.  Ramapo wraps up the week standing at 8-4 overall.
 
In game one, the Roadrunners belted out 13 hits as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Jackie Howarth and Ally Spellman reached base on a single and hit by pitch respectively before they recorded a double steal to put runners on second and third with no outs. Following the first out of the inning Nicole Mahoney laced a single up the middle plating Howarth with the game's first run before Shannon Cox singled through the left side of the infield allowing Spellman to score for a 2-0 lead. Carly Vadinsky walked to load the bases before Olivia Mahon picked up an RBI groundout as Mahoney touched home plate for a 3-0 lead. Kristen Ruggiero then laced a single into left field plating two RBI as Cox and Vadinsky scored for a 5-0 advantage.
 
Lexi Piccinich led off the second inning with a solo home run over the left field fence to put the Diplomats on the board. Crystal Good then drove home Ryan Correa with a single up the middle for their second run of the inning closing the gap, 2-5.
 
In the bottom of the second inning, Ramapo scored two runs extending their lead 7-2. Howarth led off the inning with a bunt single before she advanced to second on a pass ball. Ally Spellman drove a pitch through the left side of the infield, putting runners on the corners before she stole second. Howarth scored on a wild pitch before Shannon Cox plated Spellman with a sac fly to left field.
 
Franklin and Marshall added three runs in the third inning before Ramapo recorded two runs on three hits in the fourth inning to take a 9-5 lead. Spellman led off the inning with a single up the middle before moving to second on a sac bunt. Mahoney then laced a double down the left field line picking up the RBI. Tara Eller pinch ran for Mahoney and later came home on Cox's hard hit single to right field. In the fifth inning Ramapo plated one run for a 10-5 lead. Ruggiero led off with a double down the left field line before Sisi Machinski singled to center. Runners were on second and third following an infield ground out before Spellman ripped a single to center field to pick up the RBI.
 
The Diplomats got one back in seventh before Ramapo closed the door to earn the 10-6 victory.  Spellman finished hitting 3-3 with three runs and one RBI while Howarth went 2-4 with tow runs.  Ruggiero hit 3-3 with a run and two RBI and Cox finished the game hitting 2-3 with one run and three RBI.

Katrina Buczkowski gets the win as she pitched 3.2 innings, striking out one and walking two.  She improves to 4-1 on the year.  Katie Wenger takes the loss for Franklin & Marshall as she struck out six and walked one in a six inning performance.  She falls to 1-4.  

In game two, the Roadrunners scattered ten hits and three runs across seven innings but SUNY Cortland proved to be too much in the end as they crossed four runs on eight hits to take the game, 4-3. 

SUNY Cortland got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning to go ahead, 1-0 before Ramapo tied up the game in the third.  Spellman would single up the middle to drive in Sisi Machinski who doubled to left center to lead off the inning.  The Roadrunners would go ahead 3-1 in the fourth inning as Harper Patsko and Ruggiero each crossed the plate for the Roadrunners.  Patsko led off with an infield single and later came home on Ruggiero's single. Ruggiero crossed the plate on a Howarth double to right center. 

After a scoreless fifth, SUNY Cortland tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth inning before adding two in the final inning to take the game, 4-3.  Schoonmaker led off the inning with a single through the right side and later came home on a Kaleigh Churchill single to right, before the final run crossed the plate on a wild pitch.  Mikayla Shade scored the run.

Machinski hit 2-3 with one run and Spellman and Nicole Hernandez each went 2-4 in the loss.  Paige Merle gets the loss falling to 0-1 on the year.  She pitched 1/3 inning.  Christina Brizek started the game pitching six innings.  She struck out three and walked none in the appearance.

Ramapo returns home to take on SUNY Oneonta on Saturday, March 25th at 1pm at the Athletic Center.
