RAMAPO WINS GAME ONE 2-1, FALLS TO #12 TRINE IN GAME TWO

Osceola, FL: The Ramapo College softball team split a pair of games at the Rebel Spring Games today. The Roadrunners defeated Skidmore College 2-1 while they fell to #12 Trine University 2-0.
 
In game one against Skidmore (2-4 overall), Jackie Howarth led off with a double to right center field on the first pitch of the game. She then stole third base and came around to score when the throw down to third base got away from the Skidmore defense putting Ramapo on the board 1-0.
 
The Roadrunners added their second run of the game in the top of the fourth. Kendra Decker led off the inning with a single up the middle before moving up two bases on back-to-back sacrifice bunts from Ally Spellman and Sara Browning. Alexandra Rigoli then laced a single into left field to pick up the RBI as Decker crossed home plate for a 2-0 lead.
 
Skidmore plated their lone run in the bottom of the seventh. Heather Mak drove home Jill Strileckis from third base with a single up the middle to come within one with one out. Ramapo starting pitcher Katrina Buczkowski then recorded back-to-back outs, a fly out and a line out to end the threat and earn the 2-1 victory.
 
Buczkowski improved to 2-1 overall going the distance for the Roadrunners. She struck out two, walked one and scattered seven hits. Howarth and Decker led the team with two hits apiece.
 
In game two, Trine (9-0 overall) used a two run top of the fourth inning and held the Roadrunners to just three hits to earn their ninth straight win. Trine worked four straight walks to plate the first run of the game before Emily White plated Lainey McCue with a sacrifice fly to center field for a 2-0 score.
 
Ramapo had one of their best chances to score in the bottom half of the fourth inning when they had runners on first and second with one out and the heart of the batting order at the plate. Trine then turned a 5-3 double play to end the Roadrunner threat.
 
Danielle Ray entered the game for Trine in the bottom of the fifth inning and shut the door on the Roadrunners. She recorded six straight outs before pinch hitter Shannon Cox recorded a single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ray then recorded two straight strikeouts to end the game and earn her first save of the season.
 
Hannah Kampmann (5-0) worked the first 4.1 innings for Trine with one strikeout, four walks and scattering two hits. Ray struck out seven in 2.2 innings of work while she surrendered one hit.
 
Ramapo starting pitcher Christina Brizek (1-1) worked the first three innings surrendering three hits and four walks. Erin Fitzsimmons struck out two, walked one and gave up two hits over the final four innings.
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on the College of St. Scholastica at 11:15am and Wheaton College (MA) at 3:45pm.
