Jersey City, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept a NJAC double header on the road against New Jersey City University 14-2 in game one and 8-0 in game two, both six inning games. The Roadrunners improve to 13-5 overall, 4-0 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights fall to 11-9 overall, 0-4 in the conference.
Ramapo would get all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning, scoring three runs on three hits.
Harper Patsko led off the game with a walk before
Christina Brizek hit a ground-rule double to right field. Patsko came home on a wild pitch before
Mikayla Melendez drove home Brizek from third base with a hard hit single up the middle.
Nicole Mahoney drove home the eventual game-winning run with a single down the left field line, allowing
Melissa Moreno to score for a 3-0 lead.
NJCU got one run back in the bottom of the first when Jayla Lee Vega singled home Hannah Gavin to come within two 1-3. Ramapo came back with three runs in the top of the second, extending their lead 6-1 when Brizek smacked a three-run shot over the left-center field wall, her first of her collegiate career. The Roadrunners tacked on one run in the third when
Grace Brennan led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch and advanced to second on an infield ground out. Brennan then stole third before
Ally Spellman laced a triple to right field allowing Brennan to score, 7-1.
NJCU added their second run in the fifth inning when Brianna Rosario tripled and Gavin lifted a sac fly to left field allowing Rosario to score. Ramapo added seven runs on four hits while they were aided by two NJCU errors in the top of the sixth, extending their lead 14-2.

Katrina Buczkowski (5-3) and the Roadrunner defense did not allow a run in the bottom half of the sixth coming away with the win. Buczkowski struck out five and walked none while she scattered six hits in the complete game win. Brizek and Spellman led the team with three RBI in the game while Spellman led the team with three hits on three at-bats including two runs scored.
In game two, Ramapo would score all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning. Patsko led off the game with a double before Brizek singled and stole second base. Moreno then drove a single through the right side of the infield, driving in both RBI before Mahoney drove home Moreno with an infield single for a 3-0 lead.
Melendez smacked a RBI double in the third inning, scoring pinch-hitter
Olivia Mahon who reached on an error earlier in the inning. Brennan then lifted a sac fly to left field plating Melendez to take a 5-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Ramapo added two more runs for a 7-0 lead. Melendez led off with a single and moved to third on back-to-back fly ball outs. Alex Rigoli reached on a hit by pitch before she stole second base. Rigoli and Melendez later came home on a NJCU error. Melendez drove home the Roadrunners' final run of the game in the sixth inning with a sac fly to left field plating Moreno who walked earlier in the inning for an 8-0 score.
Ramapo held NJCU in the bottom half of the inning to come away with the run rule shortened game. Brizek earned the win for the Roadrunners with a complete game two-hitter as she struck out five and did not walk a batter. Melendez and Moreno each posted two RBI in the game while Patsko and Melendez each collected two hits to lead the team.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they host Stevens Institute of Technology at 3:30pm in a pair of non-conference games.
